MEDIUM PEEL - Trichloroacetic acid ( TCA ) can be used in many concentrations, but it is most commonly used for medium-depth peeling . Fine surface wrinkles, facial blemishes and pigment problems are commonly treated with TCA . The results of TCA peel are less dramatic than those of a phenol peel. In fact, more than one TCA peel may be needed to achieve the desired result. The recovery from a TCA peel is usually 3 to 4 days depending on the depth of the peel. Skin irritation, redness, and peeling are common and should clear within a few days. TCA peel will not bleach the skin and is safe for dark skin with proper pre-skin therapy. Sun protection should be part of your daily skin care program. Pre-peel skin care is essential for optimal results and control of pigmentation. Even though TCA is milder than phenol, it may also produce some unintended color changes in the skin if pre-peel skin therapy is not maintained.
Irritation and mild swelling may be experienced with the TCA Peel , but will subside within the first day or two. Your skin will "peel" off within the week and new skin becomes apparent. Depending on the depth of your peel most people are able to return to normal activities after the "peeling" period. It is best to avoid sun exposure unless you are adequately protected.
TCA Peels are used to boost collagen production, improve pigmentation problems from sun damage, smooth out fine wrinkles, acne scars, and surface roughness. Often a second TCA peel is performed for more dramatic results.

DEEP PEEL - Phenol is the strongest of the chemical solutions and produces a deep peel. It is used to treat patients with deeper facial wrinkles, pitted acne scars, blotchy, damaged skin caused by sun exposure, and pre-cancerous growths. Phenol can lighten treated areas and pre-peel treatment is paramount. Your skin pigmentation may be a determining factor as to whether or not this is an appropriate treatment for you. Consultation is an important time to evaluate your skin and thoroughly discuss pre & post skin care protocol. Avoid sun exposure for several months and a sun protection cream with zinc physical block is key to maintaining your newly resurfaced skin.
A full-face phenol peel typically takes one or two hours to perform. Your face may become quite swollen and it is not unusual for the eyes to be swollen temporarily. Within a day or two a crusty layer will form on the treated area. It is essential that you follow your doctor's specific post-operative instructions to help your face heal quickly and properly.
New skin will begin to form in seven to ten days. Your face will be very red at first, gradually fading to a pinkish color over the following weeks. It is extremely important that you use a sunblock or blotchy, irregular skin coloring may result. Mineral make-up is recommended and may be applied after the peeling process.
Phenol peels are used to correct pigmentation problems, sun damage, and deeper facial wrinkles and acne scars. Dramatic, long lasting results can be expected from a Phenol Peel . Your skin is not immune to the aging process or effects of the sun and your environment.
